Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Sam Rehan, author of "Laugh More: Soar In Your Health, Career and Relationships." We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?
There is an interesting story around how laughter found me and led me to become a Professional Laughter Wellbeing facilitator. I have written about it in my book but essentially laughing more supported my mental health during a difficult family time. My laughter with individuals, communities, charities and workplaces gave me insights on how powerful laughter is. I was privy to powerful personal stories that were shared with me by people from all walks of life. I knew I needed to make laughter more to the forefront, to help others. This determination led me to write and publish my first book on laughter.
What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?
Tell us about your latest release.
I am very happy about the release of my first book; Laugh more: Soar in your Health, Careerand Relationships. I am enjoying the conversations and connections my book is creating. I share the answers to questions such as Why do we laugh? What is a genuine smile? Why do some people laugh in sombre situations? Using straightforward language, I describe how both smiling and laughing can have a beneficial effect on your health, while reducing stress and increasing your confidence and likeability. You can read and rediscover what is already within you... laughter! How to extend it, cultivate it and utilise it for inner strength as a powerful tool to connect with yourself and others. I take you through a supportive nine-step journey, explore your unique laugh, embrace laughing with others and learn new skills. It is possible to access the natural power of your laughter to improve your life now! I take you through short, easy exercises to increase your physical and mental well-being. My experience, and that of others from many walks of life, demonstrates how laughter and smiling are powerful aids for your wellness, career and relationships. Book extras… I have used laughter as a vehicle to share wisdom and ways to make your life easier… methods I use, some for over 30 years!
How did you come up with the title of your book?
All the current science shows that to get maximum health benefits from laughter, we need to laugh longer, ideally 15 minutes – 20 minutes…hence the name of my book: Laugh More. Actually, any amount of laughter supports your well-being! Children naturally laugh a lot but many adults tend to laugh less often because life can get in the way and we tend to play less. In my book, I share simple straight forward solutions to prolong your laughter so you feel better. The positive effects of laughing longer spill into other areas of your life such as healthy communication, improved social connections and even happier aging!
What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?
My wish is that every reader can laugh more whatever their life situation so they feel better. You deserve to feel better and access more health. I share how even smiling promotes good health and has heaps of proven benefits. A big part of being human is our need for social connection and laughter is a universal language. Laugh More to generate more connection with others and generate more joy and well-being in your life.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
First have clarity on why you want to get published. A strong why helps you stay the course of your journey even when you encounter setbacks or delays. My why was that I wanted to serve, support and reach more people so they could feel better using the vehicle of their natural laughter. I knew strongly that I was writing for others rather than me. There were doubts all the time but I was firm in getting practical support such as editing, proof-reading, cover design etc. It's important to enlist support.
